Make campsites searchable in Lodging category on (all?) garmin units

Hello fellow MC-addicts!

First, excuse me for not using your language - my german is too rusty for this
technical stuff.

I´ve circumvented a small problem: campsites made by MC are not indexed on
newer Garmin GPS units.
This means that you cannot search for campsites using Lodging category, but
have to use the very broadAll POIs.
After a little digging I found out why: MC correctly sets the Garmin Type to
0x2b and Subtype to 0x03, and on the interesting site
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM ... odation.29
<https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM ... odation.29>
it is documented that this combination is not indexed on some (newer) units...
If you change the Subtype to 0x04, it will be indexed in Lodging (on all
units?), and:
On some models: (In no subcategory)
On other models: Lodging - Hotel/Motel
On recent models: Lodging - Resort
Which gives me the search granularity I need - I would have preferred a
meaningful subcategory, but who cares...

If I´ve earned enough points for a question: how do I make MC display the
names of lakes and forests?

Thanks to Nop and the community, keep up the good work.

Regards, grums

Thanks for sharing your solution with us.

Text is controlled by the map layers (Ebenen). All objects in a layer are
either shown without names or with names. The text attributes are changed on
the layer.

The rendering rules (Renderregeln) are all assigned to a layer (even called
Layer here :-)

So in order to get more names:
- activate Text on the Layer (affecting all other map objects in that layer)
- change the assignment of the rendering rule to another layer with text
- create a new layer, enable text and assign the objects there

Which kind of newer gps do you have?

@nop: Thanks, guess I (again) have to dive a little deeper...
@mtbbiker99: Dakota 10 (teased (then) by the so-called ´touch´ interface),
Etrex 20x (teased by the VERY nice screen...)

I´ve done that for the two layers used for lakes (see attached screenshot) -
but I still have no success in getting a name on lakes...
I´ve run out of ideas, so would somebody please give me the coordinates of a
lake that positively gets a name on a map?

I am not really sure, but try this:

Use in "Eintrag bearbeiten" the button "Layer", then drow down to "Farbe".
Click on "Text darüber" .

As I could almost see from Nop´s answer: maybe I don´t want to display the lake
names at all!
The reason: most lakes I encounter are not classified by size, so: a lake is a
lake - and the name is displayed when the blue colour is displayed.
It´s nice to see the blue waterbody when you´re zoomed out, but not so nice to
see the name at that time.
So what I really would like to achieve: Display the blue lakes when zoomed
out, and attach the name when I zoom in to certain level.
Is that acheivable?

I imagine an ersetzung that switches the layer to one with text depending upon
the zoom level, but can´t figure out how it should be done.
Another possibility could be an ersetzung to create a temporary Named POI
object, inheriting the name from the layer´s name, and putting the object on
top of the layer - again depending upon the zoom level.

Any ideas are most welcome...

the steps:

1. In main menue: click on drop down to "Flächen"
2. push the button "Renderregel"
3. search for the tag "natural" / "water" / "see" and make a double click

4. Now there is a new window called "Eintrag bearbeiten"
5. write in "zoomlevel" 24
6. make sure that every "natural" / "water" / "see" have the value 24

maybe it works....

@mtbbiker99: Thank you, but I tried that already.
In my last post I didn´t remember where I got the idea from, but now I found
out: AnOpenfietsmap Lite map generated from OSM data via
http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/.

To make fast tests in MC I concentrate on the smallest possible area near
Banyoles in Catalunya: 2.7-2.8x42.1-42.2.
There´s a lake nearby: Estany de Banyoles which I use as example.
To generate the comparison map - on the http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/
<http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/> website:
Select Routable Bicycle (Openfietsmap Lite)
Check Enable manual tile selection
Select the segment containing Banyoles (when zooming in it will appear in NE
Spain just north of Girona)
Enter your email address
Press Build my map

A confirmation email will arrive, some time later a new email will tell you
how to download the map

On a Garmin Oregon 300 the Openfietsmap Lite map behaves this way:

Maps detail setting LEAST
Lake visible blue: 50+km
Lake name appears: 200m

Maps detail setting NORMAL
Lake visible blue: 50+km
Lake name appears: 500m

Maps detail setting MOST
Lake visible blue: 50+km
Lake name appears: 3km

Using a MC-produced map the lake is invisible (blank/not coloured) to a
certain zoom level (as defined in rendering rules), and then BOTH the blue
colour AND the name appears - always at the same time.

Does this make sense, Nop? Can a behaviour like the Garmin lake object be
implemented using the current MC?

I don´t believe so. At least I am not aware of any mechanism that influences
that. Rather the opposite, when using my own maps I always had the impression
that the zoom level where names are shown strongly depends on the settings of
the device. It is news to me that a name seems to resist the settings of the
device.
